Gender differences in global antimicrobial resistance

Antimicrobial resistance is a major global health concern, but the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in human gut metagenomes is limited. A study on 14,641 gut metagenomes found a 9% higher total ARG load in women in high-income countries, but reversed in low- and middle-income countries. The findings could guide future research and interventions.
